And they arrived!

As I posted yesterday both Smut Alfresco and Smut for Chocoholics are now in print. This morning I woke up to the knocking of the postman who turned up to deliver them both!

No matter how many times it happens actually having a book in your hands that you contributed to is one of the best feelings in the world and for me it always feels a bit like christmas!

My story in Smut Alfresco is When the Rains Come which I am very proud of, it's a story I had planned out many years ago but only finished it when Smut Alfresco submission call was announced.

In Smut for Chocoholics (I just love the colour - purple is one of my favourite colours however so that may explain it a little!)  my story is The Chocolatier, which I knew I just had to write when thinking about molten chocolate and complete indulgence.

Now onto other news

In the next few weeks my latest all female anthology will be out and once it is out I'll be running a competition in which you can win any one of my ebooks or even a print copy of any of the books I'm part of that are in print.

So watch this space!

In Print!

It's always exciting when books move from the electronic to paper format. Recently two of the anthologies I'm in have made that leap!

I will be posting a photograph of the books once I receive them but in the meantime here are the links where you can get them from!

The books are £6.99 to get in print which is a bargain and they are packed full of great stories. Anthologies are a great way of finding new authors to love and read little tasty bites of already loved authors.

So take a chance a pick up a copy today!

The first has in it my story When The Rains Come. It has some really interesting stories in it and I'm happy and proud to be a part of it. So here is the brand new cover!

The second new cover is for an anthology that is all about one of my favourite kinds of food - chocolate. My story is called The Chocolatier. It has some really yummy stories in it and there is plenty of chocolate within!

A great review for Smut Alfresco! [Featuring my story When the Rains Come]

It's always a nerve-racking thing waiting for reviews but at the same time it's always a great thing getting reviews because you find out how the stories are being received. Of course it's even better when it's a really positive review such as the one that has just been posted about Smut Alfresco!

I won't post the whole thing here because you can find the complete review here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/682578997 however I will let you see the part about my story When the Rains Come

'Other tales that are definitely worth spending your time with included “When the Rains Come,” by Nicole Gestalt, which built one of the strongest back-stories in the collection, and just a slight trace of magic in the form of a rain-dance that brings more than refreshing showers.'

Please do go and read the rest of the review it's well worth it! In the past I used to write reviews and I know how much work gets put into a review of an anthology so I want send over a big thanks to Nathan Burgoine for taking the time to review it! So glad you liked the whole book.

Smut Alfresco is available here:

Sinful Saturdays - Demelza Hart

Well Saturday has come around once again and for the first Saturday in a very long time it is not snowing outside! (That could be because for this Saturday I'm actually at the other side of the country but I like to think that spring may have finally sprung). Everything seems to have a spring in its step and the birds are singing loudly, flowers have come into bloom and everything is a haze of colour just perfect for a walk somewhere!

Speaking of which let me introduce my guest blogger for the day the wonderful Demelza Hart. She  shares the Smut Alfresco anthology with me  where I have my story When the Rains Come, and I am delighted to have her over (even more so as it turns out this is her very first guest blog!). So please give a warm welcome to Demelza Hart
.

It’s great to be here at Nicole’s blog. Thanks for having me, Nicole!

I have a little confession – this is the first guest blog I’ve ever done. Newbie nerves!

Like Nicole, I’ve got a story in Lucy Felthouse and Victoria Blisse’s new anthology, Smut Alfresco. After having several stories published with Xcite Books, it’s the first time I’ve been published with someone else (House of Erotica), so it’s exciting for me to spread my wings. Being included in such a great line-up of writers is a real treat and privilege. Actually, I nearly missed out. I only saw the call for subs (thanks to the heads-up from a friend) a week or so before the due date, but, luckily, as is often the case with a last-minute deadline, inspiration struck quickly and the words flowed easily.

My story, Into the Woods, was inspired by a particular person. A friend of mine, also an erotica author, often discusses with me the merits of hot men we encounter in the news and elsewhere. She sent me an article about a local young wildlife warden whom we both proceeded to drool over.  When I heard about Smut Alfresco, he was the first person I thought of. I wanted a man who was not afraid to get back to the basics of desire and sensuality. Jake is rough, ready and knows exactly how to make the most of the nature around him. Carrie, used to working in an office, gets more than she’s expecting when she returns to the woods to find the memory stick she’d dropped the previous day.

And very happy about it she is too!

Creating great erotica means conveying all five senses – sight, smell, taste, touch and sound. Sex outdoors gives opportunities for that in abundance. I was very aware of texture and temperature in the outdoor setting as I wrote – the coolness of rock, the roughness of tree bark – and I loved having the opportunity to explore how this would affect sexual response.

Here’s a little taster:

“You’ve been a bad girl, Carrie. You know that, don’t you?”

I nodded.

“Littering, not respecting the environment, having a fucking awful job, forcing me to accompany you so you don’t get lost … people like you make my life very, very difficult.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Are you?”

“Uh-huh.”

He bent down and whispered in my ear with that deliciously inky voice of his, “Show me.”

And he met my lips with his.

Oh, I was right about them, soft but phenomenally assured. He didn’t hold back. Holding my head hard, he opened my mouth with his and immediately his tongue danced within. He was pressing hard into me, his cock already stonkingly erect.

“You ever been fucked in the woods, Carrie?” he hissed into my ear after pulling his mouth away from mine, a new determination evident in his voice.

“No,” I replied, willing him back to my mouth, pushing against the fantastic hardness at his groin. My hands dropped to release his cock but he reached for my wrists and tugged them away.

“Not so fast. That’s not the way I operate. You’re on my territory now. Up here, I’m the master. We’re going to do this properly.”

He’d suddenly become incredibly vocal. I wasn’t complaining. His low, throbbing voice was stoking my desire as much as the stupendous bulge in his trousers and the tight stretch of his T-shirt. He was in his element, and doing elemental things.

After writing amateur erotica online for several years, Demelza Hart made the move into published erotica last year after being a winner in a competition with Xcite Books. Since then she hasn’t looked back, and over 2012 had several more stories published and accepted with new publishers, including House of Erotica and Total-E-Bound. 2013 promises to be a great year with releases due soon and some exciting news to reveal!

Her stories can be found in all the usual places but you can also friend Demelza on facebook - https://www.facebook.com/demelza.hart.3

follow her on twitter - https://twitter.com/DemelzaHart

She looks forward to getting to know you!

Thanks so much to Demelza for popping over I loved her story in Smut Alfresco!

Sinful Saturdays - Lucy Felthouse

So this post is a little late going out due to yet another hectic day but here it is! Now unlike the other Sinful Saturday's which have been guest blogs by authors talking about their stories Lucy Felthouse has dropped in to talk with me from the editors point of view.

What I Look for in a Story by Lucy Felthouse

When it comes to editing anthologies, I can only really speak for myself in terms of what I look for in a story. When it comes to editing the Smut anthologies (which currently include Smut by the Sea Volume 1, Smut in the City, Smut Alfresco and Smut by the Sea Volume 2), the one thing Victoria Blisse and I both look for is fun, light-hearted stories. To us, that’s what the Smut anthologies are all about, and we’ve even included this requirement in our calls for submissions.

Now, onto the stuff where I’m just speaking for myself. Writers should know I don’t have a checklist or anything like that, I just dive into a story and see how I feel about it when I come out of the other end. Pernickety things are things like presentation: make sure you’ve got your title and pen name (be clear on which is which, you don’t want the wrong one ending up in the final anthology!) both on the document, and as the title of the document. The last thing an editor wants is to read a story, really enjoy it, and have absolutely no idea who wrote it. If we can’t find out, you could well be losing out on a story sale.

Adhere to what’s been asked for. As a writer, I’ll print out a call for submissions and before I submit my story, I’ll go through it with a fine toothcomb to make sure I’m doing everything that’s been asked for, i.e. using the correct font and size, indents, etc. Your story won’t be rejected if you haven’t paid attention, but it doesn’t do you any favours if you can’t follow the instructions. Good formatting also makes the story much easier to read—if an editor can’t concentrate on your story because of poor formatting, again, you’re not doing yourself any favours.

Checking your grammar and spellings should be a given, but sadly, people do submit stories that haven’t been thoroughly edited. Yes, we’re the editors and we’ll pick up on this stuff, but you should still send a story that’s as perfect as it can be before it leaves your computer. It just makes a good impression. Also – make sure you haven’t changed your character names halfway through a story. I’ve been guilty of this in the past, which is why I always write the names down on the top of my document or a piece of paper to make sure I’m not randomly changing them, or altering the spelling.
Okay, now onto the less pernickety things. Make sure the story flows and makes sense. I know from experience when you’re writing a story that just because things make sense in your head, doesn’t always translate to the page. Read your story again and try and imagine you don’t know who the characters are, what’s going to happen, and so on, and make sure an outsider will get it.

For the Smut anthologies in particular, make sure your characters are likeable. Or at least ones we love to hate. We don’t want dark, nasty characters. Not that there’s anything wrong with them, but they’re just not what we’re looking for in this particular series. We truly want fun, sexy, smutty stories, and we’ve rejected brilliant submissions just because they didn’t fit into the tone we’re aiming for.

Try and be different. Luckily, we haven’t had many stories sent in which have been set in the same places, so we haven’t had to worry about that. But give yourself the best chance, and set your story somewhere unusual, or give the tale a quirky slant. Having said that, in Smut in the City, we accepted two stories set on the London Underground—but if you read the anthology, you’ll see that they were so different and so brilliant that we took them both anyway.

Make it sexy! This may seem like the most ridiculously obvious piece of advice, but it’s relevant. We have had stories in that haven’t been sexy. Maybe they’ve finished before the erotic part starts, or there’s no eroticism at all. This would be fine for a romance anthology, perhaps, but this is Smut and smut means sex, or masturbation, or at the very least, a graphic daydream. However, try and avoid “and it was all a dream” if at all possible. It’s been done quite a lot, and we want something different.
Pull us in. This is probably the most important thing of all. In a short story, you don’t have that much time to grab your reader and yank them into the story, so you’ve got to do it fast, and do it well. We want stories where we’re intrigued, fascinated and excited, and eager to know how it’s going to end. If we get to the end of a story and nothing much has happened, or it was just “meh” then it’s not going to get into the anthology. Knock our socks off.

Make sure what you send is actually a story. By that, I mean something with a beginning, a middle and an end. Not just a sex scene. We want to know why the characters are having sex (or solo sex!), other than just because they fancy each other, of course. Are they a couple, have they just met, are they friends to lovers? The word counts we’re looking for in the Smut anthologies give you enough time to develop this, as well as writing in some damn good, hot sex.

We like romance, too! Yes, we’re looking for erotic stories, but we also love erotic romance. So if you can make us go “aww” as well as “ooh” then we’d like to hear from you, too.

The best thing you can do to get an idea of what we want for the Smut anthologies is to read a couple of them. You’ll quickly get the hang of the tone we want, the heat level, the types of tales. So soak it all up and then let your imagination run away with you. We look forward to reading your stories!

Workspace Wednesday - Lucy Felthouse

Well these Wednesdays sure do come round quick. I've spent majority of the week hiding in the house away from all the snow that has been falling. Luckily we've not lost power like some places and we have a lovely gas fire by which to snuggle.

This week I've got an author whom I currently share two anthologies in common with (Smut Alfresco and Smut for Chocoholics) and whose work I have admired for a long time. So without further ado let me introduce Lucy Felthouse to talk about her workspace!

My Workspace by Lucy Felthouse

I admit that, at the moment, my workspace is long overdue a tidy up. I’m so busy that I just jump from one project to the next and don’t have much time for tidying up, or cleaning. But a big clean is on my list for the very near future.

So, a brief description. I work in the spare room in our house, which was converted to an office several years ago. It’s pretty small, but there’s only me so it doesn’t really matter. I have my beloved laptop, of course, lots of pens, my iPhone dock so I can play music, drinks, tissues (bloody hayfever!), magazine racks, my pinboard and much, much more. Eagle-eyed folk will have noticed the eye candy photos on the pinboard and wall, with Jeremy Renner in a starring role *drools.* I also have my Lord of the Rings film cells and meerkats, with Alexander in a starring role. Hehe. To my left and right is more stuff, like racks holding printer paper and stuff, pen pots, my to-do lists, my Kindle, the window. Behind me is my bookshelf which is full to bursting.

The thing I love most: I love the fact that it is just my room. I don’t share it with anyone, nobody interferes, nobody moves stuff around, and, except when the neighbours are being noisy, it’s pretty quiet. My pipe dream is to have my own house and an office with a view, but for now, this little room serves its purpose and I do what needs to be done!

Sinful Saturdays - Tenille Brown

Welcome to another Sinful Saturday! I have spent the last couple of days hibernating as it continues to snow outside so turning away from the cold lets focus on something much much warmer.

Today I am joined by Tenille Brown with whom I share the anthology Smut Alfresco. Here is she to talk about her story Patches

Getting Close and Getting Closure

In general, I’m drawn to writing about sex because I love writing about, reading stories about and researching intimacy.   I love when people get close.  I love getting close, but at the same time, I connect with people who keep others at arm’s length.
In my story Patches, I write about Maretta and Herb, thirty-somethings who were in a previous relationship that ended abruptly.  They meet again by happenstance, and in the most unorthodox way, pick up where they left off.
In this story, I wanted to address the issue of closure, and the many ways people may receive it.  Relationships aren’t always tied up in a neat little bow and tucked away.  Exes don’t always wish you well and move along.  Sometimes there are unanswered questions and sometimes there are lingering thoughts.
In Patches, Maretta was able to receive her closure by having a couple last self assuring nights with her ex Herb, and he was able to satiate an unfed hunger of his own, by once again being with the only woman he trusted enough to do it.
I only hope readers find their own closure in the end.

Tenille Brown’s writing is featured in over fifty print and eBook anthologies including Best Women’s Erotica, Chocolate Flava 1 and 3, Curvy Girls, Going Down, Best Bondage Erotica 2011 and 2012, Sapphic Planet, Suite Encounters, Open, Best Lesbian Erotica 2013, Only You, Sudden Sex, Smut Alfresco, Smut for Chocoholics and the forthcoming Smut by the Sea Volume 2.  She writes for Mischief Books, and has non-fiction included in The Greenwood Encyclopedia of African American Writers.  She is also editing her first anthology first Cleis Press, titled Can't Get Enough.
