Workspace Wednesday - Lynn Townsend

Well I have to admit I'm really excited to have Lynn over talking about her workspace for one she can talk (and does a lot!) which I love when organising things like this, and another she writes the most amazing steampunk erotica, and I have to admit I love anything to do with steampunk. Plus! She's a gamer so that's got to be a good thing AND she likes Cthulhu...enough said really

Anyway without further ado let me introduce Lynn and her workspace!

You have been warned! I'm known for writing my friends, neighbors (oh! the neighbors!), and family (yeah, them too... sorry Uncle. Okay, I'm not, really!) into my stories.

I've had this desk for nine years. I know this because I had to buy it just after we moved into our apartment, back in February 2004, because my old desk got smashed in the move. On the plus side, the Office Max had exactly the same model in stock, so I just got a duplicate of my old desk.

I should give out a prize for someone who can tell me how many octopuses are on or around my desk... (I'm kidding. There are 8 that you can see, and 2 stickers on my laptop that you can't currently see because my laptop is closed.) Yes, that's a Jane Austen action figure there to the left... Also, yes, that's Kili and Thorin Oakenshield in a 'shipping picture as my desktop wallpaper. Isn't it adorable? (Yes, I know they're related. Shut up.) The poster over my desk says Madness - Madness does not always howl. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "Hey, is there room in your head for one more?"

The flat surfaces of my desk is a paean to much of the geekery that I adore: I have, running left to right: bantha, 2 slave 1s, rhinosaurus, three octopuses, a glass bird that belonged to my grandmother, the Fantasia Dancing Mushrooms, an imperial shuttle (yeah, I like the Empire... what's it to you, Rebel Scum?) some pirate ships, a Totoro, a griffin, a penguin, and Chococat. Underneath, a gargoyle, a female Jedi (because well, Jedi girls kick ass!) a couple of polaroids, a 9-inch plushie Dick (from Looking for Group) my Serenity RPG book, my squishable.com octopus (her name is Veruca...) and that tiny blue thing over on the right is a ninja hippo. (Don't ask, seriously, that is a long story...) [There was a close up of these including the RPG book but the image won't load at the moment - when I can get it to work this post will be updated with the image! - Nicole]

I also have a ton of random office supplies; turning me loose in an office supply store is a bad idea. I'm particularly addicted to tape flags, highlighters, and sharpies.I have several notebooks on the top of my desk; one is my calendar where I keep track of everything I need to be doing... the small notebook is for jotting ideas. Right now it says "Eppie Dunbar, Turner Gillespie, Ellis Rugar Ballard, Washington Co. Railroad." I was jotting names for a story idea, which I ended up finishing and submitting last week. Cross your fingers for me. Turns out that Ellis Rugar is a Star Wars: The Old Republic character. Took me three days of writing to figure out why the name sounded so familiar. So, I had to change that...

The notebook to the side of my calendar is for more long-range projects and notes; right now it's got my daughter's scratch math on it, since she's been taking SOL practice tests at my computer.

To the very far right, you can see into my husband's computer spare parts closet. Yes. You can see three. separate. non-functioning. computers. There's also 2 monitors and three or four boxes worth of parts that you can't see.

My brag shelf; theses are the books that I've had stories published in that I've gotten hard copies of. I'm still waiting for a few of them, but there's Ladies of Steampunk magazine, Fairy Tale Lust (ok, I don't have a story in that, but Kristina Wright endorsed it for me, and meeting her has been very influential in my career...), Lustfully Ever After, Steamlust, Shifting Steam, Coming Together: Hungry for Love, Duty and Desire, Return of the Kings, and He Loves me For My Brains. If you're interested in these, or any other stories I've had published, you can find my entire catalog here, along with links for the medium of your choice

And on this side is my recycled coat. That bear there, Lady Abagail C. Bearsdale, used to be a mink coat that belonged to my great aunt Kit. The bear was fashioned by Gae Sharp < http://www.gaesharp.com/home.htm > and I've had this bear since I was ten, which means the bear is over thirty years old, and the coat was probably at least thirty years old by the time it was used to make a bear. I'm quite fond of her. My mom had a whole batch of these bears made up for my grandmother, my cousins, and my aunts. (the bear on the other side, who's black, is Simon Bearkly, and he is also a Gae Sharp bear... )

************

Last year, I was approached by a friend's wife who wanted to do something special for her husband's birthday. She talked to a bunch of his friends who were writers and pitched the idea of a round-robin novel, covering many of his specific likes. We came up with Return of the Kings. Squids, mechanical dragons, rock stars, Cthulu, rubber ducks... unfortunately along the way, we lost one of our authors to illness. The proceeds from this book are going to Clarion Writer's Workshop in Leonard's name.

Working on this project was a lot of fun... the book is ridiculously over the top and erratically brilliant.

I was inspired by a couple of songs, when it came to my turn to write a chapter; Return of the King, Uh-Huh, by Tom Smith, and #9 Dream by John Lennon. (You'll understand when you read the book...)

"ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn böwakawa poussé, poussé"

Workspace Wednesday - Lucy Felthouse

Well these Wednesdays sure do come round quick. I've spent majority of the week hiding in the house away from all the snow that has been falling. Luckily we've not lost power like some places and we have a lovely gas fire by which to snuggle.

This week I've got an author whom I currently share two anthologies in common with (Smut Alfresco and Smut for Chocoholics) and whose work I have admired for a long time. So without further ado let me introduce Lucy Felthouse to talk about her workspace!

My Workspace by Lucy Felthouse

I admit that, at the moment, my workspace is long overdue a tidy up. I’m so busy that I just jump from one project to the next and don’t have much time for tidying up, or cleaning. But a big clean is on my list for the very near future.

So, a brief description. I work in the spare room in our house, which was converted to an office several years ago. It’s pretty small, but there’s only me so it doesn’t really matter. I have my beloved laptop, of course, lots of pens, my iPhone dock so I can play music, drinks, tissues (bloody hayfever!), magazine racks, my pinboard and much, much more. Eagle-eyed folk will have noticed the eye candy photos on the pinboard and wall, with Jeremy Renner in a starring role *drools.* I also have my Lord of the Rings film cells and meerkats, with Alexander in a starring role. Hehe. To my left and right is more stuff, like racks holding printer paper and stuff, pen pots, my to-do lists, my Kindle, the window. Behind me is my bookshelf which is full to bursting.

The thing I love most: I love the fact that it is just my room. I don’t share it with anyone, nobody interferes, nobody moves stuff around, and, except when the neighbours are being noisy, it’s pretty quiet. My pipe dream is to have my own house and an office with a view, but for now, this little room serves its purpose and I do what needs to be done!

*****

Sensual, sinful chocolately indulgence is the theme of this erotic anthology, edited by Kevin Mitnik, with assistance from Victoria Blisse.

Smut for Chocoholics is all about indulgence, taking wicked delight in the erotic consumption and use of chocolate, with tales from some of erotica’s finest authors.. Whatever your relationship with the seductive cocoa, there’s something nestling between the covers for you.

Contains tales from Victoria Blisse, Giselle Renarde, Lexie Bay, Annabeth Leong, Lily Harlem, Violet Fields, Nicole Gestalt, Tamsin Flowers, Tenille Brown, Vanessa de Sade, Wendi Zwaduk and Lucy Felthouse.

Workspace Wednesday - Wendi Zwaduk

Wow weeks go very quickly these days I feel sometimes as if I can't blink because if I do I'll lose a day! Anyway this is the second Workspace Wednesday and I am very happy to have Wendi Zwaduk joining me for it.

Wendi Zwaduk is one of the authors who I share two anthologies with - Smut Alfresco and Smut for Chocoholics so I am very excited to have her here talking about the spot where all the magic takes place!

Work Space Rules!
Thanks to Nicole for having me on the blog. I love to talk about my work space, even if it’s not traditional. I tend to write wherever I can find a space to work, but the place I love the most is in front of the television. No, not because I need to procrastinate, but I’m good at it. I do it for the noise. I’ve always been one of those souls who needs noise to write. So I sit on the floor in front of the couch—not sure why other than I like sitting on the floor—with the coffee table pulled back enough for me to prop my elbows on it and voila! I’m working away.
My favorite thing about my work space is the movie I’m watching—er, listening to. I featured my favorite Beatles movie, Help! on the table. That’s my coffee table. Not terribly haute couture with no coffee table books or fancy coaster. Nope. Just my laptop, notebooks and the DVD case.
I know my work space isn’t the most traditional, fancy office like some have. That’s okay. I’d probably end up goofing off at a regular desk.

Like spicy romance? So do I! Come along on this journey with me.
I’ve always dreamt of writing the stories in my head. Tall, dark, and handsome heroes are my favorites, as long as he has an independent woman keeping him in line.  I love playing with words and letting the characters run wild.
NASCAR, Ohio farmland, dirt racing, animals and second chance romance  all feature prominently in my books.  I also write under the pen name of Megan Slayer. I’m published with Total-E-Bound, Changeling Press, Liquid Silver Books, Turquoise Morning Press, Decadent Publishing and The Wild Rose Press. Come join me for this fantastic journey!
If you like my work, tell your friends and email me. I love hearing from readers!

Thanks so much for Wendi popping by and telling us all about her workspace I have to say as a writer I am a little voyeuristic so finding out where other people write is really interesting!

Workspace Wednesday - Bel Anderson

Well as regular readers to this blog will notice I've had a little bit of a spring clean (I'm striving for it to be spring even if its still snowing as I write this!) and moved some things around as well as changed the overall design. No promises that it will stay like this but I'm going to live with it for a while and see if I'm happy with it.

Since we are now in 2013 and I'm always up to try new things I thought I would introduce my newest addition to the blog Workspace Wednesdays. Every Wednesday I will be featuring a guest and their workspace. For the very first post I would like to introduce Bel Anderson and her workspace - with a little description of it by her.

My workspace may look a bit of a state, but I'm happy here amongst my clutter. You may be able to see that under the table is a plastic toy-box (belonging to my great-nephew) which is ideal to rest my feet on and, better still, I have the radiator right behind me!  I love to be surrounded by pretty things (not to be confused with actual mess) and have my special mug from the Canterbury Pottery - only used when writing - my wind-chimes, pottery animals made by my mum on the windowsill and the whole dining table for my notes and writerly clutter. I shut the door to the living room and am nicely cocooned in here until someone comes through for a drink or a snack, but I'm pretty good at picking my thread up again! I like to do my writing straight onto Word, so the laptop is essential to me, as is the table!
I very occasionally worry that someone could see what I'm writing if they peered through the window, but there's a prickly bush there so I'm fairly safe. Anyway, if they were shocked, it would serve them right for peeping!
Thanks to Bel for joining me and showing off her workspace, I have to say all the sticky notes on the poster look a little too organised for me (although it is possible I really should do that) - but I am in love with the lizard artwork on the wall.

Bel Anderson is one of my fellow writers who has a story in the new anthology Smut Alfresco (available here: https://www.allromanceebooks.com/product-smutalfresco-1090983-144.html) with her story A Walk in the Country.
