Writing

Well yesterdays writing went well, I spent the entire day writing which is quite rare for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I finished of the piece that I will be sending off later this week and then I added some more to another erotic piece.

I frequent a lot of writing sites and I can always be found wandering the net looking for interesting submission requests etc.. although this online journal is based on my work as an erotic/romance author I also write under the names: Heidi Cook, Heidi Morbannaon and a few others all in different genres. I have a love of fantasy (sword and sorcery) which I will no doubt at some point in the future be melding with the erotic works but for now I'm working on a couple of pieces that are just purely fantasy and I am very excited about them.

I love writing erotica and I love writing about the physical interactions of people especially those that push the boundaries ever so little. However sometimes I find it hard to switch between on erotic project to another and its nice to occasionally have a chunk of solid fantasy or science fiction in the middle. It allows me to become all refreshed when I'm then going back to the erotic work.

So now I'm working on three things full time and one or two on and off a piece of BDSM which is going well so far although I'm not sure where the characters are taking me. A piece of erotica based on a new m/f relationship and a fantasy story. I've also got some other fantasy stories being worked upon and I'm trying my hand at flash fiction (or sudden fiction - very short stories usually between the length of 50 to 1000 words) which is fun.

I like having lots of things on at once as I become quite easily distracted and find flipping between projects helps me concentrate in a strange way!

The Muse

Writing is a strange occupation, for some its harder then others but all who attempt it know deep down that it is their muses that compel them to write. Occasionally people find that their Muse's have 'gone on holiday' and they hit a writers block, every job has good days and bad days and its how you work through those bad days that makes the good days seem all the more worthwhile.
I'm currently working on three projects one I may have to trim as I'm just finishing off and I've gone miles over the word count limit. The second I've almost actually finished which I'm very impressed with myself about, its only a short story (5k) but it will be the first one I've actually completed away from the computer. The third story is something I've had in the works for a little while, its one that I didn't think I would have time to complete but then the deadline was changed and now it looks like I'll be able to submit it so I'm very excited, I've just got to knuckle down and write it!

I've been reading a lot about the writing habits of different writers, and as both a reader and a writer I'm always intrigued to see how the others do things. At present I don't really have a specific set writing time, I try and write at least 1000 words a day but if I get really into the story I can smash that word count in next to no time, just as if a scene isn't working for me it can take all day to work on it. The computer I use is the only one we have in the house that I can actually sit in front of the screen for any amount of time, all the others tend to cause me eye-strain and other problems. It is situated in a corridor, which isn't the most private of places but it suits my purpose and I don't mind distractions in fact I work better when there's some sort of noise or movement going on around me. The reason I love sitting and working where it is, is because just outside the window I can see right into a foxes den and often as I'm writing will be able to see the foxes come out and play. So now as I write this the mist is just rising and there's a slightly chill to the air but I'm inside all tucked up and the foxes have just got home from a night hunting.

I have a number of reviews I need to get finished as well but at the moment I'm really into two of the stories I'm working on and can't turn away from them, but I will have the stories finished before the end of the week so I'll work on the reviews then. I love having numerous projects on the go at the same time, I find it's refreshing to be able to switch between them when one starts to get stale or slow down, it allows me to have a different perspective on things.

Anyway back to the writing!

Story twists and turns

Sometimes when I'm writing I find the story gets a life of its own, and the ending is very often a surprise to me. The way I write means that although I start of with an idea and a general direction when I'm writing I will just let the words flow and let the story carry me. Its been a busy few weeks, the first person story I decided although was fun to write didn't match the direction I was wanting to take the story so I re-wrote the whole thing in third person, I sent it off today and I must say I'm much happier with it now then I was when it was in first person. I do still want to do some work in first person but I get the feeling its going to be a very special kind of story that keeps me in that tense.

I solved my eye issues by using a different monitor, so they are all better now although I do still have to be careful when watching TV etc, still that means that I can spend more time reading which I should be doing a lot more of, once this months over with. I've got two more stories to get finished and then I can concentrate on the future stories that include some fantasy and sci-fi elements.

I also have an idea for a scene involving a doctor, her patient and the patients husband but I've got to find the right place to put that in!
